Columbia DBL (Pty) Ltd is committed to advancing persons from previously disadvantaged backgrounds through active and creative empowerment initiatives. As a company, we endeavor to tackle the issue of employment equity, social responsibility and black economic empowerment proactively. South African companies face unique challenges of creating employment, empowering employees and creating sustainable benefits for those South Africans who originate from disadvantaged communities. In the light of this country's history, we recognise that active measures have to be taken to redress the economic imbalances that exist in our communities. We are committed to assisting in the transformation process and empowerment of previously disadvantaged South Africans in order to build a stable, crime free and sustainable economy in South Africa. In this endeavour we have consulted at length with our own employees, as well as experts in the fields of social responsibility and black empowerment. We are continually striving to contribute to the development and empowerment of disadvantaged groups and remain committed to these objectives. The steps we have taken to achieve this goal to date include the following: Shareholding In September 2003, 90% of the issued share capital was sold to the Saccawu National Pension and Provident fund, with the remaining 10% held by management. This created the first fully black empowered brick manufacturing business in South Africa. Employment Equity Columbia DBL is an equal opportunity employer committed to upholding
the principles of employment equity. In this regard we have submitted
our EE plan to the Department of Labour and awaiting a stamped document
from them. Following the approval of the EE plan, Columbia DBL will be in a position to apply for full BEE certification. Ernst & Young have been appointed as the compliance regulators. We should have our full accreditation by no later than June 2004. Our Achievements In recognition of our contribution to the growth of the economy, job creation and transformation, Columbia DBL (Pty) Ltd has been awarded a certificate as one of South Africa's Top300 Empowerment Companies 2003/2004 Gysbert Kappers
